Android Security
Course

We are pleased to present the Android Security Course, an intensive hands-on training program led by Mr. Eran Katsav, CEO and founder of SYNTAX COLLEGE. This exclusive program is designed for Android developers, reverse engineers, and cybersecurity professionals who wish to gain deep expertise in Android internals, app security, vulnerabilities, and protection mechanisms.
Delivered on-site at your company’s offices, this four-day course combines theory with extensive practical labs to help participants understand and defend Android systems and applications from real-world threats.

About us

Syntax College is renowned for delivering a range of courses focused on the Android operating system, catering to private corporations, government organizations, and offering online modules to the general public. Noteworthy clients include organizations such as Samsung™, General Motors™ and Carlson Wagonlit Travel™. It is imperative to highlight that all our courses are personally conducted by Mr. Eran Katsav himself, a distinguished professional holding a B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and a master's degree with honors from Tel Aviv University.
Concurrently, Eran has established himself as an independent developer in the mobile field over the past decade. Among his notable accomplishments is the creation of the first Hebrew voice assistant app, "Bip it," which has been adapted into various white-label versions, including integration into all Suzuki™ vehicles distributed in Israel.

Eran's Lecturing career

spans over 22 years. He currently holds positions at Reichman University (IDC, International School) and the Holon Institute of Technology (HIT).

At these institutions

he serves as a lecturer in the Department of Computer Science, specializing in Native Android courses covering Kotlin and Java.

More than that

in HIT Eran serves as the head and founder of the mobile lab within the Department of Digital Medical Technologies.

Course Overview

Course Outline

The Android Security Course is a four-day intensive training program designed for experienced Android developers and cybersecurity professionals who want to go beyond app development and truly understand how to analyze, protect, and secure Android systems and applications.
Rather than focusing solely on APIs or UI development, this course dives deep into the architecture, vulnerabilities, and defensive mechanisms of the Android operating system — from the Linux kernel and ART runtime to app signing, permissions, and runtime behaviors. Participants gain the skills to detect, analyze, and mitigate security threats in real-world Android environments.

Throughout the course, students will explore the Android OS internals — including the boot process, Zygote, processes, and file system — and learn how Android’s layered security model works across the device, kernel, and app levels. Through hands-on labs, participants use Android Studio, ADB, and command-line tools to analyze applications, inspect permissions, extract APK contents, and detect anomalies in system and app behavior.
They’ll gain practical experience performing reverse engineering, static and dynamic analysis, code obfuscation, and network interception using industry-standard tools such as Burp Suite. The course also covers how to reveal hidden services, investigate malicious apps, and implement modern defensive techniques such as certificate pinning and secure network configurations.

The training emphasizes understanding both sides of Android security — offense and defense. Participants learn how attackers exploit vulnerabilities through deep link manipulation, background services, and data exposure, and then practice securing applications against those same attack vectors. Live demonstrations of malware behavior and practical labs on safe data storage, encryption (Base64, AES, XOR), and secure communication make every topic hands-on and immediately applicable.
By the end of the course, participants will be able to analyze and secure Android applications at every layer, identify malicious software through behavioral patterns and manifest inspection, and confidently implement modern protection techniques for both apps and system-level processes.

More importantly, they will leave with the mindset and skill set to approach Android development from a security-first perspective — designing applications that are resilient against real-world threats, compliant with modern OS security standards, and prepared for evolving attack surfaces.

Course Structure

The Android Security Course is an intensive four-day program running daily from 09:00 to 16:00. Each day blends expert-led lectures, live demonstrations, and hands-on labs, giving participants both the theoretical foundation and practical skills to analyze, exploit, and secure Android systems and applications. From mastering ADB and app signing to reverse engineering APKs and intercepting network traffic, every session delivers real-world experience in identifying vulnerabilities and building stronger, safer Android apps.

Reference Materials for Participants

Each participant will receive comprehensive summaries of all the principles covered in the course. It is important to note that all course materials, including this syllabus, summaries and exercises, whether completed in class or for additional practice, are protected by copyright and intended exclusively for the personal use of course participants.

Requirements and Workspace

The course will be hosted at the company's premises. To facilitate effective delivery, a Barco projector or Big-screen TV is required in the training room, and each participant must possess a device running the Android operating system for application testing and experimentation. The course will accommodate a maximum of 15 participants.

We look forward to the opportunity to collaborate with your organization and deliver meaningful expertise in modern Kotlin development. Should you have any questions or require further details about the course, please feel free to contact us at any time.
